Abu Said narrated that he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say to his Companions, “Is any one of you incapable of reciting one-third of the Qur’an in one night?” They considered it burdensome and said: “O Messenger of Allah, which one of us can afford to do that?” He said, “Surat Al-Ikhlas (He is God, the One) is equivalent to one-third of the Qur’an.”   – (Bukhari)

Also Known as Surah at-Tawheed (The Unity)
The increase of the recitation of surah al-Ikhlas is a means of attaining the love of Allah. In a hadith narrated by Aisha (ra), the Prophet (s.a.w)
صلى الله عليه وسلم  once appointed a man in command of a brigade and this man was leading his men in prayer and he used to conclude his prayers by reading surah qul hu-wallaahu ‘ahad. Upon their return, they mentioned this fact to the prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم  He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in turn said: “ask him why he did that.” they asked the man, and he replied: “because it contains the attributes of the most compassionate and i love reading it.” the prophet (pbuh) then said: “inform him that allah loves him.”

Want a Palace in Jannah? Surah Al Ikhlas 10 times!
From Mua’dh bin al-Juhni رضى الله تعالى عنه a Companion of the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم reported from Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم – who said
•‘Whoever reads{قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ }Surah Ikhlas until he finishes it, ten times then الله جل جلاله builds a Palace for him in Paradise as well as additional benefits.’
Umar رضى الله تعالى عنه said: ‘Then we will have a lot of Palaces O Messenger of Allaah!’
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
• Allah has more and what is better.’(Ahmad)

By reading 3 times it is equivalent to the sawaab of reading 1 quraan.

HADITH:
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (رضى الله تعالى عن narrates that a person heard a man reciting Qul huwa Allahu ahad (Sura al-Ikhlas). He was repeating it again and again. In the morning he went to the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ and related this to him. This person considered this [repeated recitation of Surah al-ikhlas] to be insignificant. Rasullulah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ therefore said: “I take an oath by that Being in whose control is my life , it certainly equals one third of the Qur’an
[Bukhari]
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (رضى الله تعالى عنه reported that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said to his Companions, “Are any of you unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night?” That was difficult for them and they said, “Which of us is able to do that, Messenger of Allah?” He said, “[The surah] ‘Say: He is Allah, Absolute Oneness, Allah, the Everlasting Sustainer of all’ (112) constitutes a third of the Qur’an.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6:61 #534, Riyad as-Salihin by Imam an-Nawawi Ch.183 #1010

Surah Ikhlas recited 200 times daily gets forgiveness of 50 years of sin
Hazrat Anas((ضى الله تعالى عنه) has said that Rasualllah( صلى الله عليه وسلم) has said, “if anyone recites 200 times everyday Surah Ikhlas 200 of his (minor) sins committed over 50 years will be blotted out of his record; but, if he has to pay loan to anyone, that will not be forgiven.” (At-Tirmidhi and Darami)

Recite Ikhlas 100 Times and Enter Paradise to Your Right
Hazrat Anas(رضى الله تعالى عنه) has reported the saying of Rasulallah صلى الله عليه وسلم
that, “If anyone who is about to sleep on his bed lies on his right side, then recited Al-Ikhlas 100 times, Allah will say to him on the Day of the resurrection, ‘My slave, enter Paradie to your right side.‘” (Tirmizi)

Surat al-ikhlas is a means of entering paradise.
In a hadith abu hurairah (رضى الله تعالى عنه) said: “i arrived with the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) and he heard a man reciting surat qul hu-wallaahu ‘ahad, and when he finished reading it, the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) said: ‘inevitable!’ so i asked: ‘what is inevitable, o messenger of Allah?’ he ( صلى الله عليه وسلم)aid: ‘paradise!’ i wanted to go and give the man the glad tidings, but i was afraid that i would miss lunch with the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ), and when i returned later, the man had gone.”
In another hadith, narrated by anas ( رضى الله تعالى عنه), a man came to the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) and said: “i love surah qul hu-wallaahu ‘ahad.” the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) said: “your love of it has granted you paradise.”
In another hadith, the prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “whoever goes to bed at to sleep and lies on his right side and he recites surat qul hu-wallaahu ‘ahad 100 times, on the day of judgement the lord, praise be to him, will say to him: ‘o my servant! Enter paradise on your right.'

The Great Virtues and Benefits of Ayat ul Kursi

آية الكرسي ‎/Ayatul Kursi / Surat Al-Baqarah 2:255
Reading the Holy Quran is a great way to overcome turmoil, anxiety and distress, and to relieve us. There is one particular Ayah in particular that Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam spoke of, that is said to give its reader great benefits in this life and the afterlife – Ayatul Kursi (Surat Al-Baqarah 2:255), also known as the Verse of the Throne.
The narrations (hadith) that speak of the virtues, and benefits, of Ayatul Kursi are numerous.
Narrated Abu Huraira: Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing of the foodstuff. I caught him and said, “I will take you to Allah’s Apostle!” Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said: That person said (to me), “Please don’t take me to Allah’s Apostle and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you. When you go to your bed, recite Ayatul Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.” When the Prophet heard the story he said (to me), “He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan.”
Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 61 Hadith 530

Narrated by Ayfa’ ibn Abdul Kila’i
Ayfa’ told of a man who asked Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) which surah of the Qur’an was greatest and was told that it was “Say, He is Allah, One.” He asked which verse of the Qur’an was greatest and was told that it was the Throne Verse, “Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal.” He asked Allah’s Prophet which verse he would like to bring good to him and his people and was told, “The end of Surat Al-Baqarah, for it is one of the treasures of Allah’s mercy from under His throne, which He gave to these people, and there is no good in this world and the next, which it does not include.”
Al-Tirmidhi – Hadith 2169

Narrated by Abu Huraira
Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone recites in the morning Ha-Mim al-Mu’min to ‘to Him is the final goal, and the Throne Verse, he will be guarded by them till the evening, and if anyone recites them in the evening he will be guarded by them till the morning.”
Al-Tirmidhi – Hadith 2144

Abu Umaamah (RA) narrated that:
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
“Whoever reads “Ayatul-Kursi” [Qur’an 2:255], after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death (i.e. that he is still alive).”

(An-Nasaa’ee, Ibn Hibbaan – Sahih)

Sayyidina Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said,
“Everything has a hump and the hump of the Quran is surah al-Baqarah. There is a verse in it that is the
chief of all verses of the Qur’an, the ayat ul-Kursi.”
(Tirmidhi 2887)

Abu Hurairah reports:
“Whenever you go to bed, recite “Ayat-al-Kursi”– ‘Allaahu laa ilaaha illaa huwal-Hayyul Qayyuum’ till you finish the whole verse. (If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. ”
(Bukhari Book #38, Hadith #505)

Abu Umamah (ra) reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said that the ismullahi al- a’dham (The Greatest Name of Allah), through which Allah assuredly fulfils people’s needs, is contained in three surahs in the Qur’an: al-Baqarah, Al Imran and Taha.
Abu Umamah (ra) says that when he searched for the ismullahi al- a’dham, he found it to be in Ayat al-kursi (2:255); and in Surah Al-’Imran (3:2); and in Surah Taha (20:111).

English Translation – Sahih International
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
May Allah protect us and give us success. Ameen.

The Virtues and Benefits of Surah Yasin (36)
1. The Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, 'Surely everything has a heart, and the heart of the Qur'an is Yasin. I would love that it be in the heart of every person of my people'[Bazzar]. (S.Muhammad Ali Sabuni, Tafsir-al-SabuniVol.2)

2. The Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, 'Whoever recites Yasin once Allah will record the reward of reciting the Qur'an ten times.'[Maqal, Tirmidhi 2812/A & Dhahabi]

3. It has been reported by Aisha (radiAllahu anha)that the Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that there is a surah in the Qur'an that intercedes for itsreciter and forgive its listener. Know! It is Surah Yasin. It is called 'Mu'amma' in the Torah. It was enquired, what is Mu'amma? The Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, 'it embraces the person with the goodness of this world and removes the dismay of the Hereafter'[Hashiya of Tafsir Jalalalayn , pg 368].

4. The Prophet said, 'Whoever recited Surah Yasin in the night seeking Allah's pleasure, Allah would forgive him'[Ibn Hibban, Darimi 3283/A, Abu Yala, Tabarani, Baihaqi & Ibn Mardawaih]

5. Ma`qil ibn Yasar (Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, his family, companions, andfollowers) said,"Ya Sin is the heart of the Qur'an. No one reads it intending thereby Allah and the Next Abode except that Allah forgives them. Recite it for your deceasedones." [Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i (this wording is his), and Hakim, who deemed it rigorously authenticated (sahih)]

6. Imam Ghazali explained that this is because soundness of faith rests on acknowledging Resurrection and Judgment, and Surat Ya Sin details this in the most emphatic of ways. Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi concurred.

7 . " The person who reads Yaseen every night, (he) will be pardoned. " (Baihaqi)

8 . " The person who reads Surah Yaseen every night, thus, when he dies, he will die as a sha'heed (martyr)." (Tabaraani)

9 ." Whosoever reads the heart of the Quraan - " YA-Seen" in Ramadhan will recieve the sawaab of reading 10 Quraans." (Tirmihi)

10 . It has been reported by Aisha (radiAllahu anha)that the Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that there is a surah in the Qur’an that intercedes for itsreciter and forgive its listener. Know! It is Surah Yasin. It is called ‘Mu’amma’ in the Torah. It was enquired, what is Mu’amma? The Prophet (SalAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, ‘it embraces the person with the goodness of this world and removes the dismay of the Hereafter’[Hashiya of Tafsir Jalalalayn , pg 368].

11 . “Whoever reads Surah Yaseen is forgiven; whoever reads it in hunger is satisfied; whoever reads it having lost their way, finds their way; whoever reads it on losing an animal, finds it. When one reads it while addressing the fact that that their food will run short, that food will then become sufficient. If one reads it while beside someone who is in the throes of death, then that process is made more smoothly for them. If anyone reads it on a woman who is experiencing difficulty in childbirth, her delivery will then become easy. ”

Background And Meaning

It is the Makki Surah of the Holy Quran, which means that it was discovered on the Apostle ﷺ of God while He was in Makkah, i.e. before migration to Madina.

Different Names of Surah Al-Fatiha

1.   Umm ul-Quran/Kitab (Mother of the Quran/Book): Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrated the Messenger ﷺ of Allah saying as:

“The chapter commencing with “All praises and thanks are due to Allah the Lord of the Worlds” is the Mother of the Quran, the Mother of the Book, the Seven Oft Repeated Verses and the Great Quran.” (Tirmidhi)

Hence, it indeed is the Mother of Quran as Rasulullah ﷺ Himself has given it that name. Moreover, the Arabs used to name anything that summarizes anything well or consists of the most important part of some matter as Umm or Mother.

2.   Sab’ul-Mathani (The Seven Oft Repeated Verses): It is also named so because its seven verses are regularly recited at the start of every rakaah of the prayer.

3.   Al-Hamd (Praises to Allah): It is also named Al-Hamd, the Commendation, as it contains the Adoration of the Almighty Lord.

4.   As-Salah (The Prayer): It is named as the Entreaty because its reading is a requirement for the legality of the daily prayers.

5.   Ash-Shifa (The Cure)

6.   Ar-Ruqyah (the Spiritual Cure): Abu Sa’id reported that after he had recited it to cure a person who had been bitten by a scorpion, the Apostle ﷺ of God asked him,

“…And what made you to know that it was a ruqya.” (Bukhari)

7.   Asas al-Quran (the Basis of Quran): It is known by this name as Surah Fatiha contains the most essential fundamental teachings of Islam, i.e. Admiration of One Allah SWT.

Reciting Surah Al-Fatiha in Daily Prayers

It is the only Chapter of the Holy Quran that has got the reputation of being an indispensable part of Namaz, which is to be recited regularly in every Rakah of Salah.

Virtues of Surah Al-Fatiha

Some of the greatest qualities that this chapter of Furqan e Hameed contains are:

i)       Being The Greatest Surah of The Holy Quran

It is considered as the most influential chapter of the Hallowed Volume of God Almighty, as it consists of the almost the complete essence of the Islamic faith, i.e. Believing and Admiring the Exalted One, and asking Him only for gaining rectitude in life.

Abu Sa’ad ibn Al-Mu’alla narrated the Apostle ﷺ of Allah saying as:

“…I will teach a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Quran before you leave the Masjid.’ Then he took hold of my hand and when he intended to leave [the Masjid], I asked him, “Did you not say that you would teach me a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Qur’an?” He replied, ‘Yes. It is [the Surah commencing with], “All praise and thanks are due to Allah.” It is the Seven Oft-Repeated verses and the Great Qur’an that has been given to me.’ “(Ahmad)

The above stated Hadith shows that the Holy Prophet ﷺ has called this Surah as the Utmost section of the Holy Quran.

ii)       Resulting in Answering Of One`s Prayer By Allah SWT

Surah Al-Fatiha is a great form of supplication to the Almighty God. There are some recitations like sending Durood e Pak on Rasulullah ﷺ, which result in acceptance of entreaty at once. Umm ul-Quran is also such narration that leads towards getting the attention of Allah SWT while praying to Him:

Abu Hurairah (R.A) reported that the Holy Prophet ﷺ once said:

“Allah, the Glorious and Exalted said, “I have divided the prayer between Myself and my servant equally and My servant shall be granted what he asked for.” Therefore, when the servant says, ‘All praises and thanks are due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds’, Allah says, ‘My servant has praised Me.’ When he says, ’The All-Merciful, the Most Merciful, ‘Allah says, ‘My servant has extolled Me.’ When he says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgment,’ Allah says, ‘My servant has glorified Me.’ When he says, ‘You Alone we worship and Your aid Alone do we seek,’ Allah says, ‘this is between Me and My servant and My servant shall have what he requested.’ When he says, ‘Guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have favored, not [the path] of those who have earned [Your] anger, nor of those who have gone astray,’ Allah says, ‘this is for My servant and My servant shall have what he asked for.’ “(Muslim)

iii)      Being Part Of Two Lights Given to the Holy Prophet ﷺ

Ibn Abbas (R.A) narrated the Messenger ﷺ of Allah saying as:

“While the Messenger ﷺ of Allah was sitting with Jibril he heard a creaking sound above him. Jibril looked up and said, “This is [the sound of] a gate that has been opened in heaven today and has never been previously opened.” Then an Angel descended through it and came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, ‘Rejoice in the good news of two lights that have been given to you such as no Prophet before you has been given. [They are] Surah Al-Fatihah and the concluding [two] verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings they contain.’ “

It shows that Surah Al-Fatiha, among the last two Ayats of Surah Baqarah is the great source of enlightenment that Allah SWT has only given to the Ummah (Followers) of Rasulullah ﷺ,  which has the greatest effect in the attainment of Allah`s favors.

iv)        Being the Most Noble Part of Quran

Anas (R.A) reported the Holy Prophet ﷺ saying as:

“Should I not inform you of the most noble and excellent part of the Quran?” He then recited “All praise and thanks are due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds” (An Nisai)

It means that Surah Al-Fatiha is the most outstanding section of Furqan e Hameed, which contains the best form of Islamic teachings in concise form.

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that when Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) asked Ubayy ibn Ka’ab (radiAllahu anhu), "Do you want me to teach you a Surah the like of which has not been revealed in the Torah, the Injeel, the Zabur, nor the Qur'an?", and also asked what he recited in his prayers. He replied Umm-ul Qur’an (Surah Fatihah) the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) proclaimed, 'By Him in whose dominion my soul is, nothing like it has been revealed in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Qur’an and it is seven of the oft-repeated verses in the Mighty Qur’an which I have been given'

[at-Tirmidhi, Al-Hakim says that this hadith is Sahih on the conditions established by Imam Muslim (Tafseer Mazhari 1:30)]

Ambari in his ‘Kitabur-Rad’ through his own chain of narrators has mentioned from Mujahid ibn Jabr (rahmatullahi alaih) that Iblees the accursed of Allah Ta’ala lamented on four occasions: first when he was cursed; secondly when he was cast out of Heaven to the Earth; thirdly when Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) was given the Prophethood; fourthly when Surah Fatihah was revealed and it was revealed in Madinah.

Sa’ib (radhi Allah anhu) bin Yazeed says that Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) recited Surah Al-Fatihah and blew it on me. To safeguard me against calamities, Rasulullah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) recited this Surah and put his blessed saliva in my mouth.

[At-Tabraani narrated this tradition in 'Al-Awsat', Tafseer Mazhari 1:31]

The Prophet said, 'The mother of the Qur'an are the seven oft repeated verses'

[Bukhari 4704]

Surah Al-Fatihah is equivalent to two thirds of the Qur'an

[Al-Bayhaqi and Al-Haakim, Tafseer Mazhari 1:31]
